Something Completed

Tuesday, October 18th, 2016

The Grow with Me Monkey quilt is finished and on its way to baby Emmett. Hopefully you can see the quilting in the photo: squiggles in the sashing and meandering in the pieced blocks. I also outlined the monkeys and rings they are holding on to with coordinating thread.

And look a mouth! My son noticed that I had forgotten to add a mouth, I used a black Pigma pen to draw the mouth and then stitched over it with black thread.

I really like how the name turned out. I completed the quilt with a flange binding, green print for the binding and white print for the flange.

Here is block 10 for the Machine Quilt Block Party.

I was a bit brain dead when cutting the sashing. I cut it at 2″ wide instead of 2   1/2″ wide. I was wondering what in the world I did wrong that this month’s block was so much smaller than all the rest. Dah! I had some ripping out and recutting to do to accurately complete the block.

I’m also sewing up a Christmas Tree Skirt for my daughter. This week’s progress:

My daughter asked for gold and cream prints. I selected 16 different prints and I sure hope she will be pleased with the outcome! I was hoping to have it sandwiched today, but decided to add another row to enlarge it.

I bought fabric to make pumpkins table runners, but have not gotten to them yet. They were kind of purchased on a whim.

I really have to finish up Christmas gifts before I allow myself to start yet another project. My goal is to complete the Timeless Traditions BOM for a Christmas gift this year. I’ve been working on for almost 2 years. Egads!  And of course the Christmas Tree Skirt, which I’d like to complete by Thanksgiving. Maybe I’ll get to the pumpkins and they can be Thanksgiving decorations – maybe!

Are you working on any Holiday quilting?

Baby Quilts!

Monday, December 26th, 2011

My daughter helped me out on a recent commission. I received a bag of fabrics along with the instructions to create two baby quilts that must have a rainbow as part of the design. I gave the job to my very creative daughter, Janelle. She sketched out two similar ideas, we bought more fabric (background for the rainbows, backing and binding) and she got busy with the piecing and fusing. Then she hand quilted the two quilts!

Here are her results – Rainbow with happy rain drops:

Rainbow with happy cloud.

Cute quilts, don’t you think?

I just found Lily’s Quilts: Fresh Sewing Day and Small Blog Meet. What two great ideas! So I am linking to her. See the links on my side bar if you are interested.

I’ve been working on clothing quilts lately. 4 to be exact. A clothing quilt is like a t-shirt quilt, only it incorporates a larger variety of clothing. The 4 I have been working on include t-shirts, dress shirts, ties, sweat shirts, slacks, jeans, and bib overalls. Here is the first completed quilt:

I added theme fabric and just a bit of bright fabric that coordinate with the t-shirts to add visual interest to the top.

I had more clothing items than I could fit into the top – so they spilled over on to the back-

And in the corner I placed a pocket with yet another piece of clothing – denim from a pair of jeans.

Another project has been a baby quilt-

This quilt is for young friend Brianna, who is expecting her first baby in early January 2012. I have been taken by the simplicity in Victoria Gertenbach of Silly BooDilly hand quilting, and decided to try my own simple quilting of just straight lines by machine for this baby quilt. Brianna is going with an elephant theme for baby Hadyn. I don’t have a picture, but the back is the cutest ever animal print, Jolly Jungle Animals by Henley Studio.

I’ll share clothing quilts 2-4 as soon as I get the binding on!

Monkeying Around

Here is a fun quilt I recently made for a new quilt shop in my area.  Fabric and Friends Quilt Shop, Roanoke, IN.  Love the shop! Owner Deb Roehm has an eye for decorating and she has a huge selection of fabrics. Wool, fleece, flannel, batiks, and of course many lines of quilters fabrics! All in a lovely old Victorian House on Second Street. This quilt is hanging, part on the wall & part on the ceiling in what Deb calls her ‘batik’ room. Pattern by Blue Meadow Designs, Monkey Business Baby Quilt, Finished size: 38″ x 47″.

12 Baby Quilts …

Friday, December 11th, 2009

and not one picture to show!

The once-a-month quilting group I attend just finished up 12 baby quilts. We meet at a church free of charge. The only request is that we make a few baby quilts for charity for the church to donate as they see fit. This time we did whole cloth, panels, & pieced tops. Then we did the pillow top method with tying the quilts instead of binding them. We had a great time working together on these projects!
