Autism Speaks Quilt

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Wow! I just got word that  the quilt several of us made last fall brought in almost $2000 for the local Autism Speaks raffle!!! I had no idea!!! I will be contacting Lisa (who donated fabric) and Melanie (who helped with the piecing) to see if they want to do another quilt!  ~ I know Lisa does! She is the one who told me about the $2000!! Lisa owns and operates a local business that features items to help families affected by autism.

Two Giveaways

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Two Creative Studios are offering a summer giveaway over at their website. Go check them out and sign up for their newsletter! They have a list of great class offerings that one sweet day I hope to sign up for! But alas, money will not allow such a thing right now. But I enjoy their blogs and newsletter and the inspiration I glean. Sue has a photo up on her blog of what they are giving away and also two journal covers she is making out of foil and ink. Here is a link to Terri’s blog. She has been doing some amazing fabric dying lately.

Another giveaway happening is over at Leah’s Art Girl blog. She hosts a Scrap Saturday Giveaway and has a huge one running this month with a link to Art Now for Autism. Check out Leah’s post and see if perhaps you would like to donate to this worthy cause. The Art Now for Autism is a reverse auction with proceeds going toward autism awareness and research. Go check it out! If not creating art to donate, you could buy an item to help support autism research.

PS  I wanted to add that there is a great company here in my hometown that runs an online store and store front creating items to help those with Autism. Go check out Sensory Critters!

Spreading Hope

Here is the completed quilt that will be raffled off to raise money for Autism Speaks. This quilt was commissioned by Sensory Critters for the fundraiser. I believe this weekend starts its many stops at functions where the raffle tickets will be sold for the drawing that will take place in the Fall.

Bright Happiness

Friday, September 26th, 2008

One of the latest quilts I have been working on is a joint effort with a quilting buddy. We are making a quilt for Sensory Critters, which will be donated to the Autism Speaks spring 2009 silent auction. Our local quilt shop gave us a discount on the fabric for the quilt. And a local long-arm quilter did the spiral quilting at a discount price as well. I’ll show a picture of the whole quilt once I complete the binding. But here are two teasers.
