Quilt Labels

Do you document your quilts? I have inherited several quilt tops and 2 quilts. I know the story only for one of the tops. Sad, but I don’t know who made two of the completed quilts. So, ladies and gents! Make and attach labels to your quilts! That much loved quilt might be handed down to someone one day, and they might like to know its history. I suggest you include on your label, who made it, date completed, to whom it is give, occasion. I also like to put my current State of residence.
This Saturday, I will be doing a little talk on making labels for quilts at Fabrics and Friends Quilt Shop, Roanoke, IN. Here are a few labels I’ll be using as examples:
We are also offering a Make-n-Take label – the heart made using Fantasix All-Purpose Ink or the butterfly made using Fabrico pens.

This past week I actually:
-held Easter Dinner at my house  ✔
-started to clean and rearrange living room for Bridal Shower to be held here  Sunday ✔
-Monday, taught Stitchers Garden quilt class at Fabrics and Friends Quilt Shop ✔
Sadly, today the Bernina sewing machine at the quilt shop would not turn on! So I’m hoping my samples and step-outs will be efficient for teaching Thursday’s Stitcher’s Garden  class! The Bernina won’t be taken in for repairs until Thursday. I’m going to miss it!
This week I hope to:
-successfully teach the Stitcher’s Garden class without the use of the Bernina. eck!
-clean living room and dining room
-successfully pull off the Bridal Shower for my daughter with the help of her Bridesmaids this Sunday!
I’m also linking to Linky Tuesday.

I do make labels for my quilts and take pictures before handing them off, but I don’t keep proper records of them. Maybe I should! Maybe I just haven’t made enough yet??? (I’m only at 8 finished.) That owl label is just adorable!

What a great list! And how fun a Bridal Shower! I hope you have a lot of fun and that your machine is back up aand running in no time. :-)

I do make labels for my quilts. I have label software that is a really neat program although have not used recently, need to get better at this.

My first few quilts I didn’t make labels as I didn’t realize how important they were. But I make sure that I do add them now! I just finished embroidering a huge label (9.5″ square) for my daughter’s high school graduation quilt. I like to embroider it, and I find I need the extra space so that my words are legible. Since her quilt is queen size, I think that huge of a label will be ok. I have a harder time figuring out how to do labels for smaller quilts. I suppose I should just use a PIGMA pen and write on the label instead of embroidering!

I used to always sign my quilts and work but lately I haven’t and really need to start again. I sure sounds like you are busy, busy! Thanks for sharing.

I don’t always label my smaller projects (although I’ve seen some neat ideas in tucking small labels into the binding). However, I do label my big ones. At a minimum, I have name, date and residency. I usually have a quilt name. I need to get better at adding an occasion.

I cannot give anything I make away without taking plenty of photos first – otherwise I don’t think I could part with it!
